…and we’re back
Surprise! The blog ain’t dead.
Lauren and I have been planning another adventure in secret.

The plan:
- I ride north and meeting up with the ole Lar outside of Chicago
- From there we ride to her parents house in Virginia Beach, Va
- We fly from DC to Costa Rica
- I get my teeth fixed cheap and we’re staying down there until October
After I post this I’m heading out of Bloomington and into the great unknown. Check out my new and improved touring rig:

Oh yeah, I also rewrote the entire website and changed the link structure. I’m not quite done with it. Feel free to let me know if you see anything weird.

You should defiantly check out Puerto Viejo in Costa Rica. Of course you probably already figured this out. The baby sloth orphanage is pretty cool.
Also, never rent a car or drive a car there. Not unless you’re headed west anyways. I did see a few cyclists on the road so touring not impossible. You might want to a wider tire than normal since the roads are terrible an frequently devolve into gravel without warning.
Wait, did my avatar change or has it always been that silly?
Found something, I think.
‘The Past’ seems broken. All roads lead to the most recent entries that I can tell. And the pages stop at the ‘Edge of Texas’. Pages 1-10 seem to work (showing 12 pages or so), but clicking on 11 is the end.
Thanks. Fixed.
Yeah, this is all real nifty if you,re sitting next to an Athlon Super Interplanetary Mega Chip machine. However, I’m running Linux on a Pentium III Coppermine machine from 2K and all this stuff gives it a hernia.
I was wondering what a site like this would do to a setup like that. Just how bad is it?
Everything is really slooow, like one of those nightmares where the crazy guy is chasing you with a chainsaw and your feet keep getting stuck in the mud.
Those clouds are animated with never ending Jquery calculations and I’m sure all of the CSS 3 transparency stuff gets your dusty old box thinking a little harder than the average site.
P.S. I regularly come across working Pentium 4 (or better) computers in the trash – perhaps you should take a gander in your local apartment dumpsters.
it looks like you have some cool new camping gear and are those new chainrings?
Good eye Stevo, Those are indeed new chainrings and tent. Also new on the old bike is the chain, cassette, cranks, (outboard) bottom bracket, bell, cup, helmet, front tyre, and shifters (new to me, anyway)
My old drivetrain was pushing 20k miles and it feels almost wrong how smooth things are now.
good stuff. hey what kinda stove do you use?
Lar’s mommy bought us an MSR dragonfly. It’s pretty damn good at being a stove, but a bit pricey.
If you’re looking into getting one I’d suggest looking at the MSR wisperlite “international” or a homemade alcohol stove (if you’re cooking for one).
Liquid fuel FTW
Also, as your sole reader,
I would like to know why you’re still riding that crappy fuji with a delaminating left chainstay if you’ve stolen all these awesome vintage touring framesets.
where R the pictures?
That is a really good question mickey…Fixed. Also, why’d you have get rid of the /blog address? I have to go update all my RSS feeds now. Jerk.
You sure? I made proper 301 redirects and everything.
