Darlin’ Don’t You Go and Cut Your Hair
I got a haircut at the African American hair salon up the street. I say African American because Rogers Park really does have lot of first generation African Americans. Kenyans, Nigerians, Liberians, etc. Many different languages are spoken in this neighborhood and it is considered one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the country. I was definitely the minority at this place. I could tell they didn’t serve my kind very often. I felt a bit like I was interrupting a neighborhood social gathering. However, I got a nice haircut and was treated very well despite my inferior pigmentation. Introducing my new haircut:

The lady cut the back quite a bit shorter than I’d expected. I knew things were going astray when she whipped out the electric shaver at the start, but it’s all good. One of the many people hanging out in the salon commented that the lady cut it very short. Then the hairstylist responded with a comment about how fast white people’s hair grows and I laughed. When I got home, I cut the bangs a lot shorter than she did because it looked weird having long bangs and really short hair in the back.
Happy 420 everyone!!! I’m actually extremely stoned right now, btw.

Hey Lauren, if you think you’ll still be in Chicago in June, do you need a roommate? I sort of know a girl who’s moving out there in June and needs a place.
Hey Leila-
I’m actually moving into an intentional community for half the summer and planning on leaving in July, so I won’t be looking for a roommate. I appreciate it though. Give your friend my contact info if she wants someone to hang out with in the city!
From what I understand she knows a lot of people there, she just needs to find a roommate who isn’t sketchy and also gets high. Good luck, lady!
isn’t sketchy and also gets high. hmmm. good luck with that!
I didn’t know that barber shops were basically segregated in southern Virginia and stopped into one once where I was the only white among about 35 barbers and patrons. But I wasn’t leaving. I’m pretty sure that most of the barbers had never cut a white guy’s hair before and quite sure that mine never had. Took him about 45 minutes. He said, “You ain’t from around here, are you?”
Haha that’s a funny story Tom. Yeah, honestly it seems like the barber shops are pretty much segregated up here as well. The barber shops also seem to be the only places that are always busy. But maybe that’s just because half of the people are just in there hangin. Are you from VA? I am too? Did we already establish that connection I can’t remember…
i fired my hair chick. she wanted $20, cash only, for a wash and a cut. now i goto supercuts, but its still like $15 bucks. a wash is extra, but i don’t need that and supercuts is faster, it only takes like 15 minutes.
geez $20 ain’t so bad for wash and cut! i guess you probably don’t have a fancy haircut like mine though…
iv’e been told women’s cuts cost more.
the supercuts people make $60/hr and my old hair chick makes $40/hr, assumed they are booked solid and everyone is on time for their appointments.
I am confused as to why all of our comments are in boldfaced text right now…
So now that you’ve trimmed it up, is it all business up front and a party in the back?
No, it’s the opposite. The back is trimmed very neat and short. You’re seeing the party. Must not be much of a party.
I think you’re halfway to a demetri martin haircut
I love that track. That’s a pretty nice hair cut.
me too, lucky me too.
Given your pseudonym, I find it ironic that your monster icon just happens to be some sort of misshapen angry shamrock.
