Goodnight Sweet Prince

As much as we like rotting on the internet, staying indoors and not riding our bikes, I’m afraid we’ll once again be departing on mounting our bikes an embarking on a voyage most epic tomorrow morning.

My dear old ma and good ole pal Ariel paid us a farewell visit a few days ago. (ma gave me $100!)

We donated our scraps to the local bike collective and thrift store (where I impulsively purchased this impressive boom box (with tiny built in T.V.!) for a mere $15).  Here is Lauren posing with it as if it were playing her favorite song:

Our bikes are loaded once again. Sharp eyed readers may notice some up/downgrades:

Lauren’s longbike is sporting my new comically large $30 walmart sleeping bag (my fairydown rotted), a new safety flag, 50/50 pedals, pink bar wrap, and new 40cm handlebars w/jared-rigged Rohloff shifter mount.

My trusty steed is more or less the same. New rear rack (sucks), tires, mysterious chinese solar powered cyclometer, fleshtone bar-tape, and a shoe lace to keep my brooks together.

We’re going to aim to leave town in that mid-morning traffic calm (9:30 – 11am) and make it somewhere inside of Georgia by night…but I can’t help but think that something is going to go terribly awry and force us to stay in Florida FOREVER.

-J

p.s.- i just have to point out since i wrapped them myself that jared’s handlebars have an exceedingly phallic look to them…he double wrapped the bars with old tape underneath to make it extra cushy, but it really just makes it look as though he’s holding onto a couple of penii.  -lar

Yippee skippee and bon voyage! I was going to advise you to stay visible out there on the white line but now that I’ve seen your rigs I can see that won’t be necessary. Pedal on.

You’re leaving just in time! Mercury turned direct yesterday, which means it’s a much better time for traveling, communication, and internets! I love you and I’m so glad I got to see you both. Jacob and I are going to go visit the Mexican farm shortly after I move to San Anton and assess the situation. He said you guys would be more than welcome to live with us in our $250/mo shack in San Anton. I wanna tour to Michigan next year. I’m dreaming of a wonderful future which involves us being together again!

The old rigged up mount is extremely stuck in the old bars so I stretched the crap out of and took a hack saw to one of those stupid ‘horn’ things that are clamped on all cheap mountain bike bars waiting to impale the rider. (and happen to be 22.2mm)
Luckily it was also purple anodized.
      Rig.
