Richmond, Va

Lauren and I got a ride via craigslist to Richmond yesterday. The guy who took us was really nice and worked for the forest service. We have been hanging out with Eric (Laurens past future husband) who has been showing us a good ole time in the past-capital of the confederacy.  There are a lot of old buildings, remains of creepy war prisons, and equestrain monuments all around the city.  We went walking around the James River trails and around some railroad tracks.

There were Canadian geese everywhere. Even on the tracks.
Then a train came!

After it passed we saw a terrible sight:

An unfortunate goose had been hit by the train and was flailing around wildly with its last bits of life.

Here is a crude cell phone video of Lauren kindly putting it out of its misery (by throwing a rail-road spike at its head):

This also happened.

Now we are working on getting to Laurens old stomping grounds: Virginia Beach- which is about 100 miles south-east.

We briefly tried to hitchhike there today – but quickly lost hope realizing that our potential ride was probably not going to be entering on this ramp.  (Our sign is made from a PBR 12 pack box.)

Hopefully we’ll be getting to VB tomorrow somehow….

Hey Lauren! It seems to me that you wasted a good opportunity for some pate. Moreover since you practically helped the poor thing out it would have been morally justified. As Homer once said “Oh poor Pinchy, hnam, gnam….”

We would have taken it with us and try and eat it but we did not have anything to hide it in and would have probably caused quite a scene carrying it back by the neck.
Moral:Always have a garbage bag handy. Always.
