Rotten to the Core
Today was monumental for us. Remember a while back I said one of the reasons I wanted to stop bike touring was because Jared’s teef are rotten and about to fall out of his head? Well, Jared finally went to the dentist!
The verdict is that he will need: 11 fillings + 2 wisdom teeth excised + a crown + possible root canal= lots of dental bills in our future…like up to $4,000 worth. Jared spent years putting all of this off and now he’s going to have to pay for all of it at once.
It sounds absurd, but he is literally thinking about flying to San Diego and then taking a bus to Tijuana to get the dental work done. It is cheaper there because they use tequila for anesthetics.
This situation is a slightly desperate, and if yall have any better ideas or have personal experience getting dental care in Mexico we would certainly appreciate your input.

I got excellent care in Nogales and would recomend it to anyone. If you go back to Tucson Lauren can get her desert fix and Jared could get his teeth fixed and there would be much rejoicing!

hey thanks for calling me back, kerem…too bad i am a big ol lazy ass and haven’t returned your call yet..the situation was concerning a friend who is leaving for france and wanted someone to take care of her bridgestone while she’s away. she said the person could ride it and stuff, and i suggested you because you are awesome. anyways- things have been cleared up with that now…but i still want to catch up!
girl, dominic had 4k worth of surgery done 2 years ago. it happens to everyone i know in their later 30′s. i have 10k that needs to get done. i’m always just like “can you put a filling over it for now?”. fuck the dentist and crowns and all that shit.

jared is only 23 though judi! turns 24 tomorrow….he is definitely not gonna have any teeth by the time he hits his late 30s.
He should trade all his teeth in for some 80s bikes.

I think if he joins the army he can get free dental care. Plus then you get to live in Tucson for the next two years while he is off fighting a war on terror.

Just trying to help. If getting you back to Tucson means sending Jared off to the front, well, whatever, it’s only for a couple of years and at least his teeth will get fixed.

we talked about that too. if you drive him to nogales, mickey it would be a possibility.
I’ll take him down. While he’s in the torture chamber in Nogales we can go get another cargo bike and ride his sorry-ass self back across the border in it.

Some university dental schools offer cheap dental care done by their students but that’s often just a front for getting the patient under anesthesia so they can practice gender modification surgery. Look out for that.
hey tom- yeah we looked into that a little bit but your teeth usually have to be within certain boundaries or they won’t accept you.
I was thinking a Thailand Sex Change/Dental trip might open a lot of doors for me..
Here in the Great White North if your problem is bad enough and you complain about pain enough to enough doctors, they will extract teeth at the hospital.
I haven’t been keeping track of you’re health care reforms down there, but it might be something to look into to cut down on that bill. Ouch!
