Soggy Socks

Though the skies have been a bit gloomy lately, our tour has really brightened up. The mountains definitely lifted our spirits. I think that we needed the Appalachians to solidify to us that we were through with the swamp. We got high. Our legs are back in mountain shape after the sedentary end of the summer.

We are definitely still in the South, but there seems to be quite a difference between a mountain redneck and a swamp redneck. Plus there’s just a lot to see.

North Georgia and Tennessee was/is beautiful. We spent some time in the Cherokee and the Chattahoochee National Forests. Almost feels like the Pacific Northwest because we’ve been riding through clouds the whole time. Our stuff is soggy and dirty and there is more rain in the future. There are mushrooms and ferns that grow all over the floor of the forest. Did a little bit of off-road touring, and we finally put our new Katadyn Pocket water filter to use.

Right now we’re inside an old library in Sweetwater, TN. We can’t upload gruesome dead animal and pissing pictures because there’s no wi-fi.
We gotta get back to our bikes before someone steals the prized deer skull.

…more later.

I hope you find an abandoned cozy wood shack to hole up in. I think that would be magical. Or dangerous. Maybe both.

Good on ya, glad to hear ride is improving. Mountains are a real paradox, you expend a bazillion percent more energy getting up the damn things, but at the end of the day you’re almost always smiling (is it the rush of the decent, the view, temp change or some inner voodoo?). I’ll take hills over headwinds any day.
    Cheers, Gareth

    Best post in months
    keep serving it up
gruesome dead animal shots would be joyous.

You guys are in a hot spot for many things awesome. Stick close to the Appalachian Trail for the most random acts of kindness per capita.

When you guys are high, we are high.
We’re taking bets on where you’ll point the handlebars next. On the edge of our seat over here…
