The edge of Texas!!
Lauren and I just got into Beaumont (pronounced BOW-MON-T) after 5 days out in the Texas boonies!
Some highlights include:
- an indirect and crazy route for the first few days
- camping in the bushes, behind a creaky old barn, under a bridge on the San Jacinto River, and in an all out swamp next to a thirsty bird.
- Plenty of people driving with an open Bud Light in their hand..
- Big trucks, Christianity, beer, ignorance and guns
- Wrist pain, swamp butt, constipation, elbow pain, saddle sores, sore throats, a leaky therm-a-rest mat and possible hemorrhoids
- Successfully avoiding Houston
- A transition from hilly central Texas to flat swampy humid bayou
- Clif Bars Clif Bars and more Clif Bars (thanks Mickey!)

Near the ole’ nodding donkey in the swamp (this morning)
We’re going to be taking the quickly eroding Hwy 82 which on Google Street view looks pretty hairy (narrow 2 lane road with no shoulders that will be PACKED with geezers driving huge motor homes around in celebration of Jesus coming back to life and going back to heaven)….but so was most of PCH down the west coast and that wasn’t too bad.
….350 miles to New Orleans 900 to Florida!!!!!!
P.S.

I need. I need. I need, I need cash.
