The going thing
Back in 2007 I got rid of just about everything I owned….but not quite everything. For example I still have a crap-load of my cherished vinyl rapidly decomposing back on the farm. My plan was to record some of the more odd-ball records with my H4 and put them on the internets for everyone then box up the rest for later in life, when I’m a cripple. I have all the equipment, time and know-how to record but am a pretty lazy fool and have yet to produce anything. Luckily, someone has already done it for me…at least for this gem:
“The Going Thing” were a manufactured bubblegum pop group made for Ford Motor Co. in the late 1960′s to promote their hot new lineup of humongous cars. This was the original “industrial music” and big corporations of the day put out records like these until the early 1970′s. It took the gothic crowd nearly a decade to retaliate.
These records were intended to be only heard by dealerships and investors within Ford. Each record reads “Not for sale Not for broadcast” on it’s label. I picked up “The going thing 1970″ a few years back at a thrift store and have been explosively ejaculating to it ever since. The music is a mixture of period-pop butchery, ford propaganda…..bubblegum pop…total butchery.….I love it.
This music is terrible. So mind blowingly terrible that it’s good. Most people can’t seem to see the good in it. It rarely gets through an entire side when I put it on the turntable with anyone within earshot.
Without further delay here is a link to the groups err…discography (via rapidshare)
For maximum enjoyment and full effect I advise you to get out them headphones and listen to the “1970″ album first then “1969″ and just delete the christmas one (I’ve never actually listened to it but I can tell it sucks)…and maybe burn the bad one beforehand if you want to take it to the NEXT LEVEL.
May it haunt your dreams as it does mine.

… the Australian version?
More recordings to come. Maybe….is anyone even into this sort of thing? Do our readers prefer Bob Dylan?
