We Made it to Florida!!!
We still have almost 400 miles til Gainesville (the FL panhandle is loooong), but no more state lines to cross. Now if we get caught with all the contraband we’re carryin’ we’ll just be relegated to stay in the place where we plan to stay for a while anyways!…j/k.
I sure am happy to have made it out of Mississippi and Alabama alive. There were some friendly people there, but there was some occasional deep south weirdness as well. Most people were nice to us when we were off our bikes, but there were some total assholes out on the road. In Pascagoula, Mississippi a truck full of guys slowed down and sprayed windshield wiper fluid on me as it passed. But then I got ahead of the truck at a red light and about a half mile down the road they came by me again and sprayed me again.
Since the land is so flat here with the exception of occasional bridges, we have been packing on the mileage. Yesterday we rode 85 miles and the day before that we rode 97 miles. We expect to be in Gainesville very soon.
The swamp treehouse is a callin.’
Rick Ross just released a new album. It’s not called Welcome to Florida.

We scored at a Winn Dixie dumpster yesterday and now have a bunch of salad, yogurt, and bananas. If our bags weren’t so overstuffed with unnecessary winter clothes, synthesizers, books, and slingshots, we could have gotten a lot more. But we managed to carry more than I would have anticipated. If only all the places we have checked along the way were this bountiful, we would really be able to tour without spending any money at all.
Last night we stayed at a punk house in Pensacola. It was kind of them to let us 2 randos stay. Jared and I shared a couch that I would not describe as “comfortable,” so we are both a little sleep deprived. I think there will be a nap on the beach at some point during our ride today.

Hey if you guys want to stay in Tallahassee, get a hold of Leilani. Jared, I know you’ve met her a few times at least. She’s got a few couches to crash on and some awesome dogs.
I think her email is laylawnknee (at) gmail (dot) com, but if not, she’s on myspace and facebook.
Or call me to get her number, if you want.
Thanks Leila but we stayed on da gulf and missed Tallahassee
Can’t really applaude your choice of destination but congrats anyway! BTW, Lori’s La Suprema is almost done and mine is next in line!
yeah but gainesville’s not the same as the rest of florida. plus we’ll be livin’ on a farm outside of town…
Hey Lauren, Enjoying your blog. let me know your e-mail so I can send you my bro’s phone # and address in Key West. He’s a good guy and told me he would happy to put you guys up for awhile. You could snap a photo at mile 0 Highway one. KW is tropical and touristy–but some parts are fun — the ride down has some great views. Hope things are going well and that the snapdeck and the bike as well as you and Jared are holding up. –Ciao–Dean Gray
hey dean! great hearing from you…glad you checked out the blog! we will still write on here a lot so come back! you can email me at speedhubba@gmail.com…we would love to go down to key west and i think we are planning on doing that anyways.
the snapdeck has been handling things wonderfully. in austin i would pick my friend kim up from work and she rode on the back of my xtracycle about 4 miles to her house…if that’s any indication of how strong that thing is.
Actually it’s called deeper than rap, but whatev.
